A 2009 study, from the 21st Volume of the Physical and Occupational Therapy In Geriatrics tested the effects of recumbent steppers on blood pressure, strength, and mobility in residents of assisted living communities. They had a group of resident’s workout an average of 9 minutes or more a day and a group who worked less than the 9-minute average. The found statistically significant differences pre- and post-study in all categories. Residents who worked out less than 9 minutes either remained stable or their health began to decline. Residents who worked out on an average of 9 minutes or more a day were found that only 9 minutes a day decreased blood pressure, increased strength, and increased walking speed. They also found that this effect is found no matter the age of the individual, even the oldest of the study.

Why It Matters

These health improvements matter not only to help you feel healthier, but they also extend your life. According to the American Heart Association (AHA) around 103 million adults in the United States have high blood pressure. This results in an CDC estimate that around 1,100 people die of a condition resulting to hypertension each day, including heart disease and stroke.

Because of the immense struggle the US has with cardiovascular deaths a Harvard study was commissioned to find how lowering your blood pressure can extend your life. It found that regulating your blood pressure can extend you life as long as up to 4-9%. In some cases they found that lowering blood pressure resulted in 3 years of extended livelihood. The NuStep has been proven to have this effect on users who workout for as little as 9 minutes a day.
